Since the 22nd of April is Earth Day I have been looking at ways I can be a bit greener, and save some cash in the process. On my daily browse of instructables.com I found instructions for making your own laundry detergent and house hold cleaner. Since this product does not use all of the fillers and by products as regular detergents and cleaners. It is safer for the environment, and the cost is much less than store bought products. The process is very simple and you will be doing your part in helping the environment and saving money all at the same time.
This is going to be one of many Green projects over the next couple of weeks. I hope to make everyone aware that being green does not mean you have to buy and expensive hybrid car or install thousands of dollars worth of solar panels.

I have been following Tnkgrl ever since I bought my Acer one. I have to say she has really inspired me to hack away at this little machine. Well she has finally done it, added an eSata port to her Aspire one. It is a bit involved and not for the faint at heart, but is very do-able.
In this final part, I demonstrate how to add eSATA to the Aspire One. Here’s another video and additional pictures that cover the process. As usual, I’m not responsible if you damage anything.

As I stated in an earlier post. I am now the proud owner of an Acer Aspire One. Well when I bought this little beast, it was preloaded with Windows XP. Well not being the biggest Windows fan I had to get rid of it. So I decided to install Ubuntu with the Remix theme. In my research I found Linux4one. I know what you are thinking, the site is not in English. Well you are right but you can use Google translate. They do have an english support thread in their forums. I decided to write this to help other’s that want to liberate their windows loaded Netbooks. These steps will work with most Netbooks, only you need to research your Distro of Linux before installing on any Netbook other than the Aspire One.
What you need:
- USB Flash Drive 1GB or Larger
- Unetbootin
- Linux4One (I recommend that you grab the Torrent, much faster)
- Acer Aspire One (Of course)
1st thing you want to do is download Netbootin, no need to install it is just double click and go.
Then you need Linux4One downloaded. Once you have Linux4One dowloaded. Insert your blank USB Flashdrive in to an open USB Port. Once your drive is recognized open Unetbootin. You will be faced with this screen.
Now this is where it gets very simple. Chose the bubble beside Disk Image, choose your new Linux4one ISO you just downloaded. Make sure your USB drive letter is correct, and click ok.
Once the above process completes, which only takes a few minutes your USB flash drive is ready and Unetbootin will ask you to reboot. If you are ready to install Linux4One then just go ahead and hit reboot. Once your computer reboots and you come to the Post Screen hit F12 this will bring up a Menu that will allow you to choose which device you want to boot from. Choose your USB Flash drive as the boot device.
At this point your computer should be booted into the Linux4One Installer. The process for installing is the same as for Installing Ubuntu. I am not going to go into how to Install Ubuntu you can find that out here. I choose to use my full disk in the format menu. If you want a dual boot system as in able to boot into XP or Linux4One do no use the full disk. Once you have completed the installation, and your computer has booted into Linux4One you will have to reboot to get your Wireless card working. And that’s it you should have a fully functioning Acer Aspire One running Linux4One distro of Ubuntu.
l Ok I know it has been a while since I have posted anything. Due to my hectic work schedule it is though to have much time to do anything fun. I decided to splurge and I bought myself a New Acer One 150. A great netbook with 160 gig drive, 1gb ram and 1.60 ghz Atom process.
The unit came pre-installed with Windows XP, well you know me that just would not do. So I started on my mission to install Ubuntu with Remix. I ran into quite a few problems with WIFI card not working, and just real buggy. I managed to get everything working, but still was not satisfied with the performance. I found a great group at www.linux4one.it. They have created a release they call Linux4One. So I downloaded a copy of v1.1 and loaded it to my USB stick and went through the install. Which was painless. After a restart everything worked out of the box, WIFI, Camera and all. I will be doing some mods to this unit. First off I will be adding internal Bluetooth. The next mod will be adding the needed components for 3g. Since Acer decided to make 3g and option and not standard. Check back often as I do the upgrades I will be releasing video, and images.
So a few weeks ago the guys over at Geekologie posted a link showing how to hack a road sign. They must be clairevoyant because one studious reader took matters into his own hands to let his fellow Texans know what danger lie ahead as well as some tidbits of advice for the clueless out there. AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin drivers making their morning commute were in for a surprise when two road signs on a busy stretch of road were taken over by hackers. The signs near the intersection of Lamar and Martin Luther King Bouelvards usually warn drivers about upcoming construction, but Monday morning they warned of “zombies ahead.”
“I thought it was pretty funny,” said University of Texas sophomore Jane Shin, who saw the signs while driving down Lamar Bouelvard with friends Sunday night. “We wondered who did it.”
The City of Austin does not own the signs, but they are responsible for the message. The contractor on the construction project owns the signs. A city spokesperson said the hacked messages were only up for a few hours, until the construction project manager saw them during his morning commute and immediately ordered them to be changed back.”

A monument to a shoe thrown at former President Bush is unveiled at the Tikrit Orphanage complex.
”For the war-beaten orphans of the northern Iraqi city of Tikrit, this big old shoe fits.A huge sculpture of the footwear hurled at President Bush in December during a trip to Iraq has been unveiled in a ceremony at the Tikrit Orphanage complex.
Assisted by children at the home, sculptor Laith al-Amiri erected a brown replica of one of the shoes hurled at Bush and Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki by journalist Muntadhir al-Zaidi during a press conference in Baghdad.
Al-Zaidi was jailed for his actions, and a trial is pending. But his angry gesture touched a defiant nerve throughout the Arab and Muslim world. He is regarded by many people as a hero. Demonstrators in December took to the streets in the Arab world and called for his release.

So over the weekend my girlfriends daughters turned six and they are in love with zombies. So I decided to follow the instructions to turn a barbie into a zombie at http://www.paranaiv.no/content/behind-undead. It went pretty good I just need to find some clothes to put them in. Ive been playing Left for Dead since Black Friday and have discovered some minor glitches in the versus mode online multiplayer. The concept behind this game is that 4 people (Bill, Zoey, Francis, & Louis) try to survive different scenerios related to a zombie outbreak. In the versus mode you and 3 friends attempt to make it to the next checkpoint while a team of 4 special infected zombies try to thwart your advancement. The four playable types are the Smoker which has a super long tongue and can pull his victims great distances to attack, choke, or just hold the survivor while the horde attacks; there is also the Hunter who has a pounce attack and can jump great distances; there is the Boomer who can spew bile on the survivors and attract the horde as well as exploding when he gets shot which spews bile on anyone who happens to be close by; the last playable infected is the Tank who shows up whenever the game decides he should and has the ability to tear up chunks of concrete and hurl it at the survivors and a super pounch that will knock survivors across the map.
The main thing Ive noticed about the versus mode is that the infected have the ability to move objects in the game whereas the survivors cannot. Dumpsters, forklifts, pianos, & generators can all be moved with relative ease by attacking the object and pushing forward on it. This is a tactic used by the infected to strategically block the path of the survivors as they make their way through the map. If done properly survivors cant get out of elevators, through doorways or climb up ladders. This makes it just a matter of time until the survivors fall to the infected. Unless of course you know how to get around these obstacles. Pipe bombs will help in blowing whichever object a few feet in either direction or maybe a helium tank which will completely blow up the obstacle, if you can find one.
GLITCH be careful when moving stuff as infected sometimes you will get “stuck” and all of a sudden you transport across the map and appear beside the survivors. Which will result in your immediate death.
GLITCH when stuck behind something as a survivor allow a boomer to throw up on you because the bile makes you a little slippery and the attacking horde slowly nudge the obstacle out of the way. If you constantly jump up and down and crouch and throw elbows while covered in the bile you will slowly creep past the obstacle. It is better to have the whole team doing this instead of just one person. Also if you see the infected players are trying to move the generator back in place in front of the elevator then you and your team can all begin shoving the generator out of the way.
Kinda GLITCH As an infected if you happen to lose your footing and fall of a building repeatedly press X, once you reach a specific distance away from the survivors X will catch you up to them. Hopefully instead of dying you will respawn near the survivors for another attack on them instead of waiting the 30 seconds for the game to spawn you.
Possible GLITCH when playing as the tank, if you see that health is about to run out or your control meter is low, jump off a building. On 2 seperate occassions a BRAND NEW TANK appeared for another attack on the survivors. Ive attempted this several times with mixed results. Its like the game decides whether it wants another tank or not.
